Murale storico nel centro di San Sperate

The open‑air museum

San Sperate

Almost 500 murals, Pinuccio Sciola's sounding stones, citrus groves and the Peach Festival: an entire village turned into a work of art.

Welcome

Walking here is a plunge into art

San Sperate is one of the liveliest farming towns in south-central Sardinia, famous worldwide as a “museum town”. Its streets are an open‑air gallery: every corner tells stories of the countryside, festivals, crafts and shared memory.

A few steps from our villa with pool you can discover all of this on foot or by bike, at the unhurried pace the place deserves.

The murals

The art that changed a town

It all began in 1968, when local artist Pinuccio Sciola imagined turning the village into a great creative workshop. Since then local, Italian and international artists have painted the walls of the houses: today there are almost 500 murals and over a hundred sculptures and installations.

A widespread, ever‑growing heritage that you visit simply by strolling around.

The sounding stones

Sculptures that sing

Pinuccio Sciola is famous for his “sounding stones”: basalt and limestone sculptures that, when touched, release deep, ancestral sounds. In the sound garden, a tribute to the artist's genius, you feel the bond between stone, music and the land of Sardinia.

A one‑of‑a‑kind experience, to enjoy slowly and in silence.

Tradition

The Museo del Crudo and adobe

In the heart of the village, the Museo del Crudo occupies a 17th‑century building made entirely of “ladiri”, the raw earth‑and‑straw bricks of the Campidano tradition. It hosts exhibitions and cultural events and preserves the memory of Sardinian rural architecture.

A precious example of how people built — and lived — around here.
